Ohio Dog Bite Book and Ohio Nursing Home Abuse BookUsers of The Stark County District Library in Canton can research some areas of the law a little more thoroughly thanks to some new books on the shelves on the topics of dog bite law and nursing home abuse.

The Canton, Ohio law firm of Slater & Zurz LLP recently donated two books to the library on these subjects, written by the firm’s attorneys.   Slater & Zurz has been representing dog bite clients and nursing home abuse victims for more than 40 years.  Their Canton offices are located at 4450 Belden Village Street N.W., Suite 301 in North Canton. The law firm can be contacted by calling (330) 968-2547.

The book, When a Dog Bites Fight Back  details what one needs to know, what one needs to do, and what one should not do when dealing with a dog attack or potential problem with a dog.   In 11 brief chapters, one can learn the specifics rights Ohio law provides an attack victim against owners, harborers and keepers of dogs, what one should do when a dog bites, the procedure for taking legal action and how a lawyer can help.

The book will advise you about how to deal with insurance companies and how to take into account both physical and mental injury, especially when dealing with serious bites inflicted on children.  It will explain how a dog bite is a strict liability situation for the dog owner and consequently the person who is bitten does not have to prove negligence on the part of the dog owner, harborer or keeper.

STOP Nursing Home Abuse in Ohio is the second book the law firm recently contributed to the library.  It is a highly informative piece which explains the difference between elder abuse and nursing home abuse and tells how to take legal action against nursing homes if necessary.

If you have suspicions about abuse, the book provides suggestions as to how to confirm those suspicions.  It defines the legal Rights of Residents in nursing homes in Ohio and what to look for if you believe medical charts of nursing home patients are inaccurate or being altered.

In 28 chapters, STOP Nursing Home Abuse covers a wide range of topics and addresses everything from misuse and overuse of patients’ drugs to a resident wandering away from a  nursing home.  It also includes cases of actual abuse and what action was taken in each instance.

Library visitors can consult either book while at the library or check them out for further reference at home.
