News and Case Results

Ohio Attorney Jason SayreWhen you have a conversation with Jason Sayre, you can sense that he is a dedicated young man. If you delve into “what makes him tick” you’ll find many answers – he likes working out, reading and giving back to others.

Jason is one of the newest members of the downtown Akron, Ohio law firm of Slater & Zurz LLP. Becoming an attorney was always “part of the plan” for him, but he did so much more before that “part” became a reality.

Jason was born in Akron, Ohio in 1976. His stepfather was in the Army, so his family traveled a lot. When he was in 8th grade, they came back to this area and he graduated from Springfield High School in 1995. After graduation, he went to The University of Akron and graduated in 2000 with a degree in Political Science. Along the way, he decided to join the U.S. Army Reserves. Because his father and his stepfather were both in the military he says that he also wanted to do his part. After about 6 years in the Reserves, he joined the Army full time and went to Officer Candidate School. He studied at Fort Benning Georgia and received his Army commission in 2001, serving three years on active duty.

He was deployed to Kuwait in March of 2003 and a few weeks later, participated in the invasion of Iraq. He was a Quartermaster Officer, which meant that he dealt with logistics – making sure there were enough supplies. When asked about his time in Iraq, Jason says, “I was glad to have gone. The experience was interesting and it makes you appreciate what you have back home.” He says that he never really felt afraid even though stray gunfire and mortar attacks were common.  “You just have to concentrate on the task at hand, and do your job”.  He was overseas for a year.

Jason is “Army Strong” as evidenced by his commitment to that branch of the service. He recently re-joined the Army Reserves, this time as an army lawyer.

As a student at The University of Akron Law School,  Jason went to Mississippi  for spring break in 2006 to help build houses after Hurricane Katrina. He says he just wanted to help someone else. He has also worked with Habitat for Humanity.

Before joining Slater & Zurz LLP, Jason ran his own practice but likes working at a larger firm where he can get more experience working with more clients. He also likes the support of a larger firm.

When asked about a case that sticks out in his mind, Jason recalls that of a 12-year-old boy who was bitten by a neighbor’s dog. The dog grabbed the young boy’s arm and when all was said and done, the boy ended up with several stitches on his arm and a large scar. Jason was able to see this dog attack case through to the end. He proudly says that he was able to get a substantial settlement for the young man.

Interestingly, Jason compares the practice of law with his military experience.  To him, each new case is like a new mission.  It’s his job, he says, to successfully complete the mission to the satisfaction of both himself and his client.

Jason says that doing well in college, getting into a good law school and then finding a job that you enjoy is the best advice that he could give to anyone who is contemplating becoming an attorney.

Jason Sayre practices law to help others, just like he does so many other things in his life to help others. He wants to know that he has made a positive impact in someone’s life.
