Beware of Man’s Best Friend. Serious Dog Attacks are a Reality

Dog Bites

Ohio Dog Bites and Dog AttacksFor the most part, dogs enhance people’s lives. They are regarded as precious family members, offer companionship and are a true ‘friend” for millions of Americans.

Given the above, it can be easy to forget that dogs are still animals with instincts that supercede rational thinking. When dogs are not properly cared for and supervised, they can quickly begin to show the traits of their wolf ancestors. It’s a simple fact, dogs have powerful teeth and have the ability to use those teeth for hunting and their own defense and protection.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports dogs bite approximately 4.5 million people in the United States each year and nearly 900,000 of them require medical attention. The most concerning statistic is that of these 900,000 people, nearly half are children. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention also shows that nearly 31,000 Americans needed reconstructive surgery after dogs attacked them.
